MARX BROTHERS CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION SET

FREE IN MARCH IN RANCHO MIRAGE

Rancho Mirage, CA—Four score and twenty…wait…five score years ago, our fore-brothers, (actually just the three--Leonard, Julius and Arthur Marx) brought forth onstage a new comedy act, with names conceived by monologist Art Fisher during a poker game and dedicated to the idea that we all need a good laugh and that just maybe the Marx Brothers would be even funnier using these new “O” names based on their actual personality traits.

To commemorate that momentous occasion in 1914, when the Marx Brothers made their stage debut as ChicO, GrouchO and HarpO, Marx-mirthful fans of every breed are being invited to huddle together in Rancho Mirage on the weekend of March 22 and 23, 2014 to celebrate 100 years of the Marx Brothers’ worldwide influence on comedy and laughter.  This free (for all) event is being presented by CGH (ChicO, GrouchO, HarpO) Society, a non-profit organization of 501(3)c  repute, and the City of Rancho Mirage, which is providing its very own Library as venue for this Marx Madness, aka “the most hilarious time you’ve had in the last 100 years!”

To review what we’ve just learned, let’s sharpen our pencils to make a point of jotting down the Five Ws:

Who:   CGH Society and The City of Rancho Mirage

What:   The centennial celebration of the Marx Brothers and their worldwide contribution to comedy and laughter

    When:   Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 2:00 p.m.

    Where:  Rancho Mirage Library auditorium

    Why:     Funny you should ask

Last but possibly least, the price of admission is (altogether now) free!  It is open to the general public (as well as the major, corporal and private public), although CGH Society members (which now number 759 and represent 19 countries on our planet alone) will be given inconsequential treatment when it comes to the musical-chairs seating arrangements.  For those who manage to snag one of the 300+ available seats, here is what they can expect to see at Saturday night’s show:  a panel consisting of Marx family members and others under the influence of Marx humor; everyone’s favorite Marx Brothers movie clips; a Q & A session with the audience participating; semi-live music, not to mention (but I will anyway) amusing anecdotes by CGH Society President and event host, Bill Marx, who, at press release time, was still the son of HarpO.  The program is guaranteed to leave the audience in stitches, but there will be a doctor in the house to remove these stitches, or just suture yourself.

But wait…there’s more!  Read on and in the next 10 seconds there will be information on a second show, absolutely free…again.  The bonus matinee show will take place on Sunday afternoon, at which time the aforementioned host Bill Marx will present never-before-remembered scenes from Marx Brothers movies, inches of footage from Marx home videos and long-lost Marx Brothers performances on myriad shows during the early days of TV.  Wholly cow…PrezO BillO is going to milk this centennial celebration for all it’s worth, which will be udderly amazing!

And in conclusion, everyone should now stand up and shout the O-fficial CGH Society cheer “Hip Hip Yippee!”  Then take two aspirin and call me in the morning.

“That’s the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard!”

  1. Hello and thank you CGH Society for creating the upcoming event.

In an earlier press release, it was mentioned that the event would be streamed. Will that still happen? Is it going to be a live stream of the event? How will people access the event online? [I know technology doesn't always cooperate, but it would be great for fans from such far away lands as the U.K. and Minnesota to be able to see it online live.]

If not, please let us know if the event will be filmed and shared on YouTube or another venue. Or else filmed and not shared.[Then fans on the message boards can have hours of "Fun" discussion on what was possibly viewed at the event. Within a couple of days, it will be sure that rumors of a viewing of "Humor Risk" had occurred on Sunday.]

Peace to you and thank you again for your hard work in planning this event.
